THE EXHIBITION
The Samurai: The legendary warriors shaped the history and culture of Japan for more than 700 years. Her myth tells of bravery and loyalty, of power and intrigues. Their ethos and the aesthetics of their armor continue to fascinate to this day. «Myth Samurai. The Ann & Gabriel Barbier-Mueller Collection" presents the history of the samurai through their armor and weapons, which reflect the social, military and artistic developments of that time - from the beginnings of warriorship to the eventful rule of the sword nobility to the traces of the samurai in of modern popular culture.
The focus of the exhibition is on loans from the renowned private collection of Ann and Gabriel Barbier-Mueller, Dallas (USA). These are supplemented by outstanding weapons from the collection of the Bernisches Historisches Museum.
